"It is quite humbling to read the stories of these 10 amazing individuals, all of whom have dedicated large parts of their lives to the fight against breast cancer," said Mary Lou Bohn, Vice President, Golf Ball Marketing and Communications, Acushnet Company. "The sheer number of nominations we received this year was inspiring, knowing how many golfers are committed to fighting this disease and making a difference. We hope that by sharing these stories it will inspire even more people to join the cause and help find a cure."
Each of the 10 honorees will have a $10,000 donation made in their name to Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help fund life-saving breast cancer research at the national level. In addition, each honoree will be receiving custom Pinnacle golf balls imprinted with his or her name and the Going the Distance Awards logo as part of a gift package featuring Acushnet Company (parent company of Titleist, FootJoy and Pinnacle golf brands) and Susan G. Komen products.
Going the Distance Awards honorees were determined based on four key criteria: dedication to the fight against breast cancer demonstrating a personal passion and commitment to furthering the cause (e.g., volunteer, community advocate, medical practitioner); impact on others' lives or the community; strong tie to breast cancer (e.g., survivor or family/friend of survivor); and connection to, and passion for, golf.
A judging panel that included representatives from Pinnacle, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the golf media, as well as a 2012 Going the Distance honoree, chose the final 10 Going the Distance Awards honorees.
Pinnacle has a long history of supporting charitable organizations that are aligned with golf and has been committed to battling breast cancer and funding research toward a cure since 1995.
Pinnacle features Komen's logo on their Gold Ribbon 15-ball packaging, and also stamps the Komen Running Ribbon on each Gold Ribbon golf ball as a distinctive reminder of the importance of early detection.
